Deep Dives

Deep Dive: A thorough exploration of a particular topic

Deep dives are an important part of understanding a topic or issue in great detail, but they require a lot of time and energy. Have you considered temporarily adding an extra member to your team in order to carry out a complex analysis of a food system-related topic?

I have been conducting research on different aspects of local, regional and global food systems for the past 12 years. Some examples of previous assignments are detailed below:

Client: International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (iPES-FOOD)

Assignment: Literature review of 600 scientific papers to inform the development of the iPES-FOOD report, From Uniformity to Diversity: A paradigm shift from industrial agriculture to diversified agroecological systems.

Client: Nordic Food Lab of the Nordic Council of Ministers

Assignment: Leading the exploration of the most innovative food policies in the Nordic region for the Nordic Food Policy Lab of the Nordic Council of Ministers. I was responsible for developing the structure, amassing and digesting hundreds of reports, and writing this state-of-the-art publication.

Client: Agriprotein / GREEiNSECT

Assignment: I conducted a preliminary assessment of some of the social impacts of using black soldier flies to transform waste products in South Africa. The assessment uses the case studies of two companies, AgriProtein and The Biocycle, to assess the social impact of black soldier fly production on workers, consumers, local communities and society.
